Growing up, I was always either reading about fairytales, imagining them, or talking about them. When I was in 3rd grade, the fairytale picture in my head quickly faded once my parents filed for their divorce. My mom never worked when I was a kid and none of my friends' mom's worked either, so when my mom had to start working to provide for me and my brother, we were both quite confused. My mom was always very creative and crafty, she'd make all of mine, my families, and friends, birthday invitations, as well as holiday cards and gifts. My mom finally decided to do something she'd been wanting to since before she was with my dad and that was to make a jewelry business. She slowly, but surely became a very successful entrepreneur, providing everything for my brother and I as we got older. From slowly working her way up, within 9 years she became the one of the most successful store retailers. Now, she has her jewelry all across the country in California, New York City, all over Florida, Chicago, and many other places as well, like the Cayman Islands. Her business has also taught me how to talk to others, no matter who they are, even if they are rude, disrespectful, or even foreign. Her biggest buyers are in Turkey and her factory is in China, so she is always on the phone with foreigners, having to translate their language to understand them. She has inspired me that no matter where you start from, you can always find your way to the top. I watched her every day as she struggled to meet the bills, or provide for my schooling, as well as meet the orders from harsh customers, but it only made her stronger and made me more motivated to succeed in life.
I enrolled in ENT3003 because one day I hope to be an entrepreneur and inspire others to do so as well. I work with my mom who is one sometimes, and would love nothing more than to own my own business someday. I am taking this class also because I'd love to expand my knowledge on how becoming a successful entrepreneur works in the big world and how I can use this information for the future. Although some people may think contrary, I think the most genius entrepreneurs come from the mind's of young ones, and thats why I would love to start my journey now on learning how to become an entrepreneur some day in the future.

ReplyDeleteAlexa, this story is amazing. You definitely have a way with words because this moved me in so many ways. I am so happy that your mother was successful, especially in the end, and she was able to provide for you and your brother without having your father by her side. Based on why you're taking the class, I think you are on the right path to becoming just like your mother. Keep chasing your dreams! My story is different and it is about a student right at UF who has created his own invention and has pitched for it and everything. It was easy to share. You should check it out at
